When I come in from my morning perimeter check, Lucy is making pancakes from a powdered mix you just add water to. Considering it’s such a simple recipe, they smell delicious.

I walk past her and wash my hands at the sink, sneaking glances at her perfect ass in a pair of short shorts. “I think there’s some bacon left. Want me to fry up a few slices?”

Lucy flips a cake then turns to me with a grin. “I was hoping you’d suggest that.”

When I open the fridge to pull out the bacon, I realize how bare it is and sigh.

“What’s wrong?” she asks.

“I really should pick up some more groceries. We’re running low on just about everything.”

“I can make a list…” Lucy turns off the heat to the griddle then carries the plate of pancakes to the table. “If that will help.”

“Sure.” I line up four slices of bacon on the still-hot griddle and turn the heat back on. “Is there anything in particular you want?”

“Yeah, a few things.”

The way she says it has me curious. As soon as the bacon is finished and we’re both eating, I ask the question I’d hoped she might readily offer up on her own. “So, what are you thinking we need from the store?”

Lucy keeps her eyes on her plate but a smirk forms on her lips, and she won’t make eye contact as she shrugs. “Just some stuff we’re running low on.”

“I have a pretty good memory.” Now I’m just messing with her because I like to see the pink flush of her cheeks. Obviously, whatever she wants, she’s embarrassed to say out loud. And that makes me even more interested. “If you just tell me, I’m sure I’ll remember it all.”

Lucy drops her fork and leans back in her seat with a big smile on her face. “Really, Zane? You’re gonna make me say it?”

“I think you have to…”

She huffs out a breath. “Fine. I want you to pick up condoms. A lot.” Her eyes don’t stray from mine as she makes her interest in replaying our activities from last night known. Apparently, many more times.

“Oh, those were already on my list. Anything else?”

Lucy just shakes her head and picks up her fork again, spearing a bite of her food. “You’re such a brat.”

“You’re such a prude.”

Her head kinda bounces between a shake and a nod. “Yeah, it’s weird, but I really am. I never thought I was before, but now…with you, it’s different.”

“Why do you think that is?” I pick up a slice of bacon and take a bite, my eyes glued to Lucy so I don’t miss even the slightest expression on her face.

She watches me for a long moment before finally responding. “I’m afraid to find out.”
